Isaac "Ike" Skilling, 57, a life-long resident of Wallowa County, died in his Lostine home on Thursday, July 5, 1979. He had been in failing health for approximately 10 years.
On Nov. 23, 1921, he was born in Wallowa, the son of R. Jay and Nellie Boyd Skillings. He was married to Luella Carper on Sept. 6, 1945, in Enterprise.
A retired logger, he was a veteran of World War II and a member of Eagle Cap Post #430, VFW; Kruse American Legion Post #72, Wallowa; and Eagles Aerie #259, La Grande. He was a member of the Wallowa Church of Christ.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 10, at the Bramlet Memorial Cemetery near Wallowa, with Minister Robert James officiating.
The men's quartet of the Wallowa Church of Christ sang "Peace In The Valley" and "Going Down The Valley".
Military services were conducted by Eagle Cap Post #4307, VFW, and Kruse American Legion Post #72.
Interment was in Bramlet Memorial Cemetery. Bollman Funeral Home handled all arrangements.
He is survived by his mother, Nellie Lewis of Lostine; three daughters, Verna Mudie of Pendleton, Vickie Meyer of Portland, and Anitta Skillings, Hermiston; and two sons, Rickie Skillings of Wallowa, and Jay Skillings, with the U.S. Army in Germany.
Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. John (Ada) Flowers of Hermiston, and Mrs. James (Joan) Litchfield, Wallowa; and four grandchildren. One son, Stephen, preceded him in death.
