Mr. William Bernard Adams, 81, died Friday, July 25, 2003, at St. Joseph Hospital. Cryptside services July 28, 2003, at Bellevue Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Adams, a native of Danville, PA, lived in Augusta since 1963. He was a graduate of Princeton University with a degree in Chemical Engineering and retired from Columbia Nitrogen Corporation and Dutch State Mines of North America where he participated in construction, start-ups and operations of the two corporations in various management positions retiring in 1983. Prior industrial activities were with the Standard Oil Company of Ohio where he participated in various engineering formations and development of the new Chemical Department. This included pilot plant research and completion of the first plant to manufacture acrylonitrile used in acrylic fibers by a new process.

Lt. Col. Adams entered active military service with the PA National Guard in 1940 and served with the Third Army in Europe during World War II. Then on recall he served in Korea with the Korean Military Advisory Group. He was active for many years in St. James United Methodist Church and in many church administrative positions and taught Sunday school class for 30 years. He was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Augusta Rotary Club, and Reserve Officers Association.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Junkins Adams; a son, William B. Adams Jr.; a brother, Edward U. Adams and one grandchild, Pamela M. Adams.
