Maxine Vivian Newburn, 98, of West Des Moines, Iowa, died at home on Sunday, May 26, 2019. She was born May 31, 1920 in Booneville, Iowa to Thomas & Florence (Hubbard) Allen.
Survivors include daughters, Beverly (Paul) Frye, and Pamela Martin, grandchildren, Jessica, Jodi, Jaymi, & Jayson, great grandchildren, Breezie, Andrew, Tierra, Ayden, & Judah, many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, former husband, Donald Newburn, grandson, Howard ‘Jimmy’ Martin, brothers, Willis, Mike, Darrell, Melvin, & Donald Dee, and sisters, Opal, Beulah, & Dolly.
After raising her girls Maxine worked outside the home, enjoying her longest employment in the kitchens of Hy-Vee.
Maxine’s family remembers her as a good cook, especially her spaghetti and meatballs and the chicken and noodles (made from scratch). She liked the Lawrence Welk program, watching many reruns. Bingo and puzzles rounded out her hobbies. Babysitting the grandchildren and great grandchildren kept her young.
Memorial services will be 6:00pm, Friday, May 31, 2019, at Westover Chapel, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines, Iowa 50322. The family will greet friends from 4:00pm till service time on Friday. Private family burial of cremains will be at a later date in Masonic Cemetery, Des Moines.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
