Ralph "Mike" Allen, 84, of Winterset died of a heart ailment Nov. 21, 2001, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Des Moines.

Mike Allen was born June 28, 1917, to Thomas and Florence (Hubbard) Allen of Booneville. A United States Army veteran of World War II, he married Rosemary Henson on Nov. 15, 1947, in Des Moines. A lifelong resident of the Booneville and Winterset areas. Mike was a retired farmer and construction worker. He had resided at Country Haven Guest Home for the past four years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two infant children, three brothers, a sister, an infant sister and a great-grandchild.

He is survived by four daughters, Jean Pearson (husband David) of Perry, Betty McVay of St. Charles, Becky Dillinger of Spokane, Wash., and Opal Summer of Richmond, Ind.; four sons, Billy Allen of Glenwood, Jerry Allen (wife Debbie) of Evansville, Ind., Larry Allen of Winterset and Terry Allen (wife Julie) of St. Charles; two stepsons, Bob Walker of Des Moines and John Walker of Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Maxine Newburn and Dolly Anderson, both of Des Moines; a brother, Donald Allen of Booneville; 22 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
