Ralph was a kind man. There wasn't anything he wouldn't do for family and friends. Ralph grew up around Fountaintown, Shelby County, Indiana and graduated from Morristown High School with the Class of 1961. For years he was a Morristown basketball fan. He spent many week ends at the games and grew to know all the boys names on the team. The team honored him by coming to visit him in the hospital not long ago. They cut a piece of one of the nets for him and brought it to the hospital. He was proud of the Yellow Jackets Spirit! He retired after 30 years of service at Navistar (International Harvester) where he was a Union Stewart. As his sons grew up, he was a Boy's Club baseball coach and Little League Coach. He took joy in coaching. His heart was always thrilled when in later years one of his young players who had grown up, would say "Hi Mr. Short" to him on the street. He was also in Civil Defense. He will be missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents , brothers: Robert Earl, Larry Gene, Keith Edmond and George Marshall Short and his Sister Marjorie Short Cheek. Several brothers/sisters died in infancy. He is also preceded in death by his son, Ralph "David" Short who passed away on March 29, 2011 from Pancreatic Cancer.
