VERNON RICE RITES MONDAY
Vernon LeRoy Rice, 58, of St. Michaels died Thursday morning in a Devils Lake hospital following a lingering illness.
Funeral services were conducted Monday from the St. Michaels Catholic church with Rev. Father Stanislaus officiating. Interment was in the St. Michaels Cemetery.
Born in Crary on April 13, 1895, the son of Oscar and Ida May Rice, he lived in the Crary community until 1920 and then moved to the reservation and resided on the same farm since.
He was married to the former Mable LaFournaise on September 13, 1937.
Mr. Rice was a member of the school board in Lohnes Township and also a former member of the Knights of Pythias.
Surviving besides his wife is one step-daughter, Betty; one son, Jerome, and two daughters, Connie and Ida May, all at home. Mr. Rice was preceded in death by one son, Jackie. Other survivors are three brothers, Harvey E. Rice of Doyon, Hugh F. of Missoula, Mont., and Howard M. of Doyon and three sisters, Alta and Mildred Rice of Crary, Mrs. Carl Sjolund (Edna) of Grand Forks.
The Toomey - Sorvick Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

FUNERAL MASS HELD FOR VERNON RICE, 58
Requiem high mass for Vernon LeRoy Rice, 58 of St. Michaeals was conducted monday from the St. Michaels Church with Rev. Father Stanislaus officiating. Interment was in the St. Michael Cemetery. Rosary was recited Sunday evening from the Toomey-Sorvick Funeral Chapel.
Mr. Rice died early Thursday morning in a Devils Lake hospital following a lingering illness.
Pallbearers at the services were Caroll Anderson, Ben Holtz, Magnus Madson, Lloyd Fleming, Clanrence McKinnan, and Ray Rutten
