Funeral services for Dexter D. Rice, 63, Doyon postmaster who died Friday in a Devils Lake hospital, where he had been a patient for four days, were held Monday afternoon in Doyon with Rev. C.W. Baumann of Devils Lake officiating.
He had been in ill health for several years. Mr. Rice was postmaster at Doyon for 30 years and owned and operated a grocery store there. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, Yeoman and Woodman lodges of Doyon, Odd Fellow and Elks lodges of Devils Lake, Euclid chapter no.24, A. F. and A. M.of Lakota, and the Methodist Church.
He was born April 4, 1885 in Odessa township in Ramsey county.
Survivors include his widow; his mother, Mrs. Oscar Rice of rural Doyon, three sons, Robert of Grand Forks, Leland of Beach, and Myrle of Fergus Falls, Minn., two daughters Mrs. Merton Miller of Doyon and Mrs. Ervin Moreau of Hollywood, Calif., three sisters, Mrs. Carl Sjolund of Grand Forks, Mildred and Alta Rice of Crary, and four brothers, Howard and Harvey of Doyon, Hugh of Missoula, Mont., and Vern of Tokio.
Honorary pallbearers were Frank Cummings, C.J.Arneson, R. Tronson, Geo. Saunders, Fred Aronson, William Frith, Oscar Wood, and Fritoff Franzen. Active pallbearers were Robert Anderson, E.H. Keck, Ed Weaver, Chas. Munro, Andrew and Gust Nelson.
