LaVar H. Newby 1923 ~ 2007 LaVar H. Newby passed away June 4, 2007 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born April 26, 1923 in Panguitch, Utah the oldest of 10 children to Hugh and Harriet Newby. LaVar grew up in Monroe and graduated from South Sevier High School. He served in the U.S Army during World War II. LaVar married Barbara Black (from Marysvale) on Oct. 11, 1947 in Salt Lake City. He was employed at Hill Air Force Base for 34 years. He lived in Clearfield, Utah for over 50 years and moved to Salt Lake City five years ago after suffering a major stroke seven and one half years ago. He loved working on cars and being a mechanic. LaVar was preceded in death by his two brothers, Calvin Newby and Quin Newby. He is survived by his wife Barbara and two children: Christine Asper (Frank) of Salt Lake City, Utah; son Stanley Newby of Apache Junction, Arizona; and three grandchildren, Jarvis Newby, Natalie Asper, and Nathaniel Asper. Also survived by sisters Treva Cates of Grand Prairie, Texas; Teora Willis (Dewey) of St. George, Utah; Larene McCoard (Robert) of Redmond, Utah; Pat Jones (Howard) of Cypress, California; Ruth Gates (Jerry) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Callie Clark (Ralph) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; brother John Newby (Glena) of Glenwood, Utah; sister-in-law Tracy Newby of Circleville, Utah. Funeral Services will be held Fri. June 8, at 10:00 a.m. at the Deseret Memorial Mortuary, 36 East 700 South. The family will receive friends at a view Thurs. evening at Deseret Memorial Mortuary and one hour prior to services on Fri. Interment at Mountain View Memorial Park.
