Mrs. Maria Amon died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F. A. Moore (sic), in Franklin, Tuesday, June 18, 1912. The funeral was held at Sheakleyville on Thursday, June 20, conducted by Rev. Musselman of the Presbyterian church. Mrs. Amon was a resident of Sheakleyville for many years and is a striking example that hard work does not kill. It is not known just how old she was. Tradition says she was born shortly after the war of 1812. Mr. S. F. Bell who was connected with the family, believes she was 97 years old; others think she was several years younger. One son in Oklahoma (sic), one in Mercer and a daughter in Franklin comprise the living members of her family. She was a member of the Baptist church at Sheakleyville when she lived there. Her husband, David Amon, died many years ago. They both lie side by side in the Sheakleyville cemetery.
