Mrs. Arbuties Wilson Powers, 83, of Bryants Store, passed away Friday morning, January 18, 2019 at her home of 53 years. She was the daughter of the late William “Sugar Bill” and Julie Cox Wilson born on January 15, 1936 at Golden’s Creek.

Arbuties was raised in the Baptist faith and often would walk the BackTrack to attend church at the Warren Camp Church near KayJay. She and her family loved to sing in church. She was a homemaker and a member of the Little Poplar Creek Baptist Church. Arbuties loved being with people of all ages and could fill any room with joy and laughter, but spending time with her family was the most joyful time of all. She also enjoy watching UK basketball and WLJC. Arbuties was named after a flower in the Bible and she truly loved flowers, her favorite being roses.

On February 13, 1956, she united in marriage with Steeley D. Powers and to this union five children were born.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Steeley; an infant daughter; a son-in-law, Hobert Robinson; a granddaughter, Amber Danielle Powers; three sisters, Dessie Cleo Wilson, Ruby Mahan and Ardithearl Wilson and two brothers, Roy Estil “Blue” and Jack Wilson.

Survivors include four children, Phyllis Reynolds and husband, Bobby, and Debbie Robinson all of Bryants Store, Danny Powers and wife, Terry, of Golden’s Creek and Denver Powers and wife, Kay, of Mackey Bend; two sisters, Elvalene Wilson Poff Bryant of Chatsworth, GA and Cleda Wilson Jones of Barbourville; a brother, Lloyd Wilson of Woodbine; five grandchildren, Donna Bays, David Bays, Danny Jason Powers, Bryce Reynolds and Ryan Powers; six great grandchildren, Jeremy Sandlin, Devin Sandlin, Brianna Simpson, Jordan Jase Powers, Dallas Creekmore and Jenna Smith; four sisters-in-law, Geneva Steele of Jacksonville, FL, Bonnie Blair of Tennessee, Mary Odel Wilson of KayJay and Alma Opal Powers of Bryants Store, who she though of as a sister; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Friday, January 25 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Bill Gray and Rev. Ronnie Rose officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Powers Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Jason Powers, Bryce Reynolds, Ryan Powers, Mike Mahan, Roy Wilson, Billy Wilson and Jeremy Sandlin. Honorary bearers will be Bluegrass Hospice Care, especially Connie and special friend and doctor, Melanie Dykes.

Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Friday prior to the funeral hour.
