Karen Ann Chess, 75, of Morgantown, died Sunday, December 2, 2018 in the Madison Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born September 25, 1943 at Fairmont, WV, a daughter of the late Estel McCoy and Marjorie L. Wilson McCoy.

Karen formerly worked at the WVU Hospital in the dietary department. She was a graduate of Clay-Battelle High School.

She was a member of the University Church of Christ.

The turning point in her life happened in 1974 in Nashville, Tennessee. At the time she met her future husband in the afternoon and he proposed to her later the same day. They were married in May of 1975.

Surviving are her husband, Blaine A. “Sonny” Chess; one sister, Sharen Jean McCoy of Morgantown; and one nephew Nathan McCoy.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Gloria McClendon who was Karen’s roommate while she was at the Madison. She was always helping and looking out for her.

Friends may call at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home in Blacksville from 5 to 8:00 PM Tuesday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11:00 Wednesday with the Evangelist Ben Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Daybrook Cemetery.
