Francis E. Howe, 72, of Dover Road died unexpectedly Monday evening in Wilmington. Born in West Dover on June 2, 1914, he was the son of Ernest and Rosa (Scranton) Howe. He received his education in West Dover and graduated from Wilmington High School. A World War I Marine veteran, he had attained the rank of Corporal. In his earlier years, Mr. Howe had been employed as a milk truck driver and later worked as a lumberjack for Haynes Bros. Mr. Howe spent most of his life operating the family farm in Wilmington and later worked as a stone mason in the Wilmington area. His interests were maple sugaring, deep sea fishing, and hunting, and he was especially fond of horses. Surviving are a son, Richard of California; three daughters, Joyce White of Greenfield, Mass., Connie Robinson of Wilmington, and Shirley Squires of Guilford; three brothers, Jasper of Wilmington, Harold of Bennington, and Morton of New York; five sisters, Agnes Atherton and Doris Adams, both of Wilmington, Zella Morgan and Lillian of Brattleboro, and Vivian Glover of Northfield, Mass; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held at Covey and Allen Funeral Home Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Paul G. Blacketor, pastor of Wilmington Congregational Church officiating. There are no calling hours. Burial will take place in the family lot in Riverview Cemetery.
