Dr. Stephen Mc Crea
Son of Reverend James McCrea and Catharine (Rosbrugh) McDonald
Stephen was born 1755. He served as a surgeon in the American Revolution. In the fall of 1775 and hard winter of 1776 was a member of New York's Second Regiment 9th Company of the Continental Army serving in the invasion of Canada to attack the British army/navy based in Montreal and later Quebec City, Canada. Later during the summer and fall of 1776 was appointed 1st Surgeon under General Benedict Arnold at Fort George (located on Lake George), Province of New York. In late summer and fall of 1776 he served as surgeon on the sloop Enterprise commanded by Captain Dickson on Lake Champlain; this sloop served as a hospital ship. He married the Patriot Miss Mary Rutgers around 1784 and after their marriage they lived at 129 Cherry Street in New York City. He was buried and died 14 Oct 1795 in New York City aged forty.
