OBITUARY:
Velma Lorraine Caplinger Fitzwater, age 76, of Boonsboro, formerly of Damascus, died Thursday, April 26, 2007, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born August 18, 1930, in Mathias, W. Va., she was a daughter of the late Grover C. and Ada M. Mathias Caplinger.

Velma was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Leonard T. Fitzwater, in 1988.

She had retired from the Montgomery County Board of Education after 27 years service.

Velma was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church near Boonsboro.

She was an avid bowler.

Velma is survived by one daughter, Geraldine L. Martin and husband Sherman of Keedysville; one son, Steven L. Fitzwater of Hagerstown; three grandsons, 1st Lt. Mark E. Martin, stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, Michael A. Martin of Keedysville, and Justin Ingram of New Windsor; one sister, Mildred Long of Broadway, Va.; two brothers, Edgar L. Caplinger and wife Orpha of Dayton, Va., and Franklin D. Caplinger and wife Joyce of Springfield, Va., and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bast Funeral Home in Boonsboro. Pastor Mary Ann Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
