Elmer E. Baker 91, Blue Springs, MO passed away April 13, 2012 at his residence. Elmer was born June 29, 1920 in Hanover, NH to Rev. Weltie E. and Annabel (Barnes) Baker. He was united in marriage September 12, 1943 to Winifred Timmons in her home in Champaign, IL by Elmer's Dad; and Wini's Pastor Rev. Melville T. Kennedy.


He graduated from Alma College in Alma MI, Magna Cum laude, in June 1942 with an AB Degree. He received his Bachelor of Divinity Degree in June 1947 from Chicago Theological Seminary which changed to Master of Divinity. He was ordained June 8, 1947 at First Congregational Church of Highland. IL. Elmer received his Master of Sacred Theology Degree from Dubuque Theological Seminary in Dubuque, IA Summa cum Laude on May 15, 1970. He Pastored the First Congregational Church of Elkhart, Indiana from 1953 until 1964. From 1964 until 1976 he was Pastor of First Congregational Church of Christ in Dubuque, IA. From 1977 until 1985 he was Pastor of Church of Christ United in Bennett, IA. He retired from Installed Ministry August 1, 1985 and continued to serve thru the Interim Ministry Program. In June of 2000 he retired completely after many years of service. While in Dubuque, IA Elmer was Chairman of the Mental Health Board. He enjoyed gardening, Music, reading, and board games. In addition to his parents Elmer was preceded in death by Brother, Velorous Weltie Baker, and sister Beryl Winifred Baker.


Elmer is survived by his wife, Winifred Baker of the home; daughters, Carol Jean Baker of Montague, MA and companion Douglas Hayes, Linda J Wren of McKinleyville, CA; son, Douglas Finley Baker and wife Kathy Cole of Kenosha WI; grandchildren, Maia Christine Hansen of Jamaica Plain, MA, Jyesha I. Wren of Eureka, CA, Gretchen Jane Moreland and Husband Steve of Kenosha, WI, Richard Benjamin Baker of Amherst, MA, Charles Weltie Baker and wife Monica of Eau Claire, WI; great grandchildren Landon James and Nona Jane Moreland of Kenosha WI; brother, Dr. Ralph Hillis Baker age 101 of St. Petersburg, FL; and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins. He will be missed by the other residents of Blue Springs, Terrace as well as the many friends and members of St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Independence, MO.


Memorial services for Elmer will be held at 10:30 am, Monday April 23, 2012 at St. Luke's United Church of Christ, 727 Main Street, Independence, MO.
