Joseph was the eighth of ten known children of Peter Rothrock (1746-1829) and Catherina Mueller (became Miller) Rothrock (1749-1803), who married 09 Oct 1770 at York, York County, Pennsylvania. The family moved to North Carolina in 1771, settling at the Moravian community of Friedberg.

Joseph was a farmer near the Moravian community of Friedberg, which then was on the Stokes/Rowan Counties, North Carolina border, but is now on the Forsyth/Davidson County line in North Carolina.

Joseph first married to Magdalena Knauss (1785-1826) on 15 Oct 1810 at Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina. Joseph and Magdalena were the parents of six known children, namely:

1. Thomas Rothrock (1811-1814)
2. Martin Rothrock (1814-1878)
3. Salome Rothrock (1817-1817)
4. Wilhelm Rothrock (1818- 1889)
5. Eli Sandford Rothrock (1822-1887)
6. Maria Magdalena Rothrock Bockel (1824-1843)

After Magdalena died Joseph remarried to Sarah Spach (1795-1866) on 18 Jan 1827 at Friedberg, Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina. Joseph and Sarah were the parents of six known children, including two sets of twins, namely:

7. Eliza Elizabeth Rothrock (1827-1917)
8. Charity Rothrock Tesh (1829-1906)
9. Charles Rothrock (1829-1919)
10. Anna Rosina Rothrock (1831-1907)
11. Louisa Lisetta Rothrock DeLapp (1835-1872)
12. Lucinda Sophia Rothrock Mendenhall (1835-1904)

We are very fortunate to have links to Joseph's parents, both of his wives, all twelve of his known children and all nine of his known siblings, as included below.
