Mabel married Oscar James Alexander on November 8, 1911 in Fairview, Missouri. They had two sons: Marrs Walter Alexander and James Oscar Alexander.
On June 15, 1912 a tornado hit Bates County, Missouri, killing at least 25 and injurying 50. Mabel, her two young sons Marrs Walter Alexander and James Oscar Alexander, along with her father-in-law John Huston Alexander all perished in that tornado.

Mr. Alexander's father was also among those killed. The remains of the mother and two children was brought here Tuesday morning and first taken to the home of John R. Beavers and from there to Hazel green Cemetery ten miles southeast of Neosho where they were buried in the presence of a large assemblage of old neighbors and friends from over the eastern part of the county. Mrs. Alexander and the two children were at the house alone when the cyclone struck. They had just returned from town and Mr. Alexander had gone to his father's place near by to put away the team. On his way back home he stopped at the house of his brother-in-law, Virgil Marrs, and saw the storm coming. He got Mrs. Marrs and the five children out of the house and they all laid down flat on the ground while the cyclone passed over. Virgil Marrs was not at home. Old Mr. Alexander was in his house and was carried about 250 yards with the house and killed. When the storm had passed Mr. Alexander went to his own home and found that it had been swept away entirely. He found his wife and children a short distance away, one child still living but fatally hurt and the others dead, all three stripped of their clothing. All of them badly scratched and bruised, the mother almost beyond recognition.
