James England was born May 24, 1851, at Bradport, Dorsetshire, England. His Parents were John England and Jane Pavard. He was the eleventh child in a family of fifteen children.
In 1862, when James England was eleven, his parents and several of the children came to America. They arrived in Salt Lake City in October, 1862, and settled in Plain City, Utah.
On January 24, 1870, James England was married to Rose Hannah Smith, in the old Endowment House in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The couple lived in Collinston, Utah, Preston Idaho, and Moreland, Idaho, where they were living when the Oregon Sugar Company asked him to go to LaGrande, Oregon, in the year 1900, to raise sugar beets.
James England held many positions in the LDS Church. He did missionary work after the harvest was completed each fall for years.
While living in Moreland, Idaho, James was ordained a High Priest and set apart as First Counselor to Bishop H.P. Christensen. He also served as Bishop In the LaGrande and Union Wards in Oregon. He was ordained a Patriarch March 10, 1906, by Rudgar Clawson and shortly afterwards was called by Preseident Joseph F. Smith to be a Patriarch at large.
The Englands morved to Burley, Idaho, in 1912, and settled in the Starrhs Ferry area, where they farmed. He served as Patriarch in the area.
James England's wife died April 15, 1920, in Cove, Union County, Oregon, where they had been living since 1918. He died at a daughters's home in Portland, Oregon, October, 12, 1943. They are both buried in Burley Idaho. The Englands were parents of fifteen children.

Jas. England Dies in Portand. Former Cassia County Resident Dies At Age of 92; Prominent Church Worker.

James England, 92, prominent Cassia County farmer and LDS church leader for many years, died Tuesday (12 Oct 1943) morning in Portland, Ore., where he was visiting a daughter.

He had been ill only a short time. The body was brought to Burley Wednesday.

Mr England was made a patriarch-at-large of the LDS church in 1906, and since 1912 he has been a patriarch in this area. He was also a high priest in the church.

He was born at Bradpool, Dorset county, England, on May 24, 1851, a son of John and Mary p. England. When he was 12 years of age the family came to America as converts to the LDS church and settled at Plain City, near Ogden.

January 24, 1870, Mr. England married Rose Hannah Smith in the old endowment house in Salt Lake City. Later they lived in Preston, Moreland, LaGrande, Oregon, Union, Oregon, and Burley.

Mr. England served as bishop in both LaGrand and Union. In 1812 the family moved to a farm in Starrhs Ferry, where they lived until 1918. In 1920 Mrs. England died, and since then Mr. England has lived with several of his sons and daughters.

He is survived by five son, seven daughters, 75 grandchildren, and 50 great-grandchildren. The sons are: J. H. England, Oakley; George A. England, Burley; Williard England, Salt Lake City; Carl England, Ogden; Charles England, Rexburg. Daughters are: Mrs. Sadie Davis, San Diego; Mrs. Bell Bench, Logan; Mrs. Minnie Lamb, Union; Mrs. Emma Baxter, Portland; Mrs. May Horne, Heyburn; Mrs. Leona Larsen, Burley; Mrs. Nellie Bramwell, Oakley.

The body rests at Burley Funeral home.

Funeral arrangements have been set for Friday (15 Oct 1943) afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in Burley First ward chapel, Bishop Ernest R. Blauer officiating. Internment will be in Burley cemetery by the side of his wife.
