John England was born in Bridgeport, Dorchester, England, on September 4, 1843, the son of John England and Jane Paverd England. At the age of ten, he was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a great desire to join with the Saints in America, and at the age of seventeen he boarded the vessel Manchester. While traveling to Utah, he worked on the government telegraph line from Missouri to Salt Lake City. From there he went to Plain City, Utah, to find work. While living there, he married Laura Thueson on October 11, 1863.
The young couple moved to Gunnison, Utah, where he participated in the Black Hawk War. They moved back to Plain City where John helped build the Plain City Canal which was needed for irrigation.
In 1893 John traveled to the Snake River Valley looking at the prospect of a home site. He later filed on land in Moreland and helped build the People's Canal and served on its board for several years.
He and his wife Laura were the parents of eleven children: Laura, John Vicilo, Julia, Ellen, William T, Milo, Alice Louise, Violet, Ida, Lillie, and Alta. They were married for fifty-seven years. Laura died August 5, 1920, and John married Emma Geddes in October 1920. She died August 21, 1929. John England was active until his death on April 28, 1932. He is buried in the Moreland Cemetery.
