Monroe J. "Chippy" Stavely, 74, husband of LaRuth LeGore Riley Stavely, 441 Prince St., Littlestown, died Wednesday afternoon at the Hanover General Hospital.
Born in Littlsestown, He was the son of the late Louis and Rose (Buddy) Stavely. His first wife Evelyn (Zimmerman ) Stavely died February 17, 1983.
He attended St. Aloysius School and graduated fron Littlestown High School in 1930. He served in the Marine Corps. during the WWII. He retired from the LIttlestown Post Office in 1975 where he had been employed for 35 years. The last 10 of which he served as Post Master.
He was the recipient of the 34th Outstanding Citizen Award in Littlestown for the year of 1986. He served as past president of the Alpha Fire Company in Littlestown, Past president of Littlestown Eagles and he served as secretary for the Eagles for more than 10 years. He was past president of the Littlestown Lyons club, a member of the Ocker-Snyder American Legion, Littlestown, Mason-Dixon Memorial Post V.F.W., past president of the Littlestown Senior Citizens;.member of the Littlestown Fish and Game Association, Former member of the Littlestown Borough Council and he served as four years as Littlestown Mayor. Upon retirement fron the Post Office he worked for several years for the H&R block, preparing Income Tax returns. He was a member of the Redeemers United Church of Christ in Littlestown where he sreved a number of years in the Consistory. He was also a member of the Westminster Moose Lodge, Gettysburg Elks, Hanover Home Association and the National Amvets.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son Thomas M. Stavely, Mechanicsburg, one step-son Brian A. Riley, Littlestown and one daughter E. Lorraine Hall, Littlestown, four sisters, Theresa Snyder, Helen Kress, Bernadine Rickrode and Marcella Meade all of Littlestown, two grandsons, sour step grandchilsren and 5 step great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. from Redeemer's United Church of Christ in Littlestown with the Rev. Theodore E Bowers officiating. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery with Military Services conducted by the Littlestown Allied Veterans Council.
