The following obituary was provided by Barbara Hunter Parker, and was probably from a Lincoln county (Kansas) newspaper:
OBITUARY: John William Burkepile
Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Hunter returned last week from Admire, Kansas, where they were called by the death of Mrs. Hunter's brother, William Burkepile, a former resident of this community.
Mr. Burkepile died Monday Nov. 7, 1927, at his home in Admire, Kansas, following a two weeks illness of pneumonia. The direct cause of his death however was heart failure. Funeral services were held Nov. 9th, at the Methodist church at Admire. Burial was made at Burlingame, Kansas.
Some ten years ago, Mr. Burkepile and his family, who lived on the farm now occupied by E.B. Lancaster, moved to Burlingame, Kansas. From Burlingame he moved to Admire, where he lived until his death.
He leaves a wife, three sons, Dewey and Edward [sic--Everett] of Burlingame and Robert of Admire; three daughters, Mrs. Mae Strange of Harveyville, Kansas, Mrs. Grace Burk of Burlingame, Kansas, and Miss Opal Burkepile of Admire. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. J.E. Hunter of Barnard, Kansas, Mrs. Ella Mears of Admire, Kansas and Mrs. Katie Casper of Hot Lake, Oregon and one brother, C.E. Burkepile, of Vesper, Kansas.
During the years the Burkepile family lived in our community, they made many friends by their sincere friendship and hospitality, who extend their heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.
