James Calvin Burkepile was the last of the seven children born to my great-grandparents, Jacob B. and Mary Ann (Ricedorff) Burkepile. His birth was recorded in the family Bible. At the time of his birth, his parents were in Perry County and were members if the Mannsville Lutheran Church, so this is probably where James was baptized.

The year after little James died, his parents left Pennsylvania and settled in Mitchell County, Kansas.
