Benson, NC: Mr. Charlie Rayford Byrd, age 91 of 12389 Raleigh Road, died Saturday, August 31, 2013 at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Funeral Services will be 11:00AM- Monday, September 2, 2013 at Rose & Graham Funeral Chapel in Benson. Officiating will be Rev. Woodrow Miller, Mr. Hilton Byrd and Mr. Jimmie Massengill. Burial will follow in Hills of the Neuse Memory Gardens in Smithfield.

Mr. Byrd was born September 17, 1921 in Johnston County to the late Charlie Hatcher & George Esther Allen Byrd. He was preceded in death by his wife Pearl Johnson Byrd, brothers, Roy Byrd and Glenn “Bill” Byrd and a sister, Esther “Maybell” Singletary. Mr. Byrd was a retired farmer and a US Army Veteran serving in WWII. Mr. Byrd was also a retired firefighter with the Elevation Fire Department. He was a member of Johnson Chapel Church and Four Oaks American Legion Post 346.

Surviving are; Sons & Daughters-in-law, Marshall R. & Jackie Byrd of Dunn; Charlie K. & Shirley Byrd of Benson; Four Grandchildren, Jody Byrd and Susanne Smith both of Benson; Sherry Lee of Dunn and Wanda Kendall of Selma; Eight Great-Grandchildren, Korey Smith, Kolby Smith, Jake Byrd, Carson Byrd, Maelee Byrd, Jenna Lee, Christopher Norris and Noah Kendall; Brothers, Hilton Byrd of Four Oaks and Bobby Byrd of Dunn. Sisters, Frances Whittington of Benson, Janice Thorne of Smithfield, Betty Jean Capps and JoAnn Drennan both of Four Oaks. Several Nieces and Nephews.

The family will receive friends 6:00PM-8:00PM, Sunday, September 1, 2013 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson.

Flowers are welcome; however memorials maybe made one's favorite charity.
