FOUR OAKS - Glen E. "Bill" Byrd, Sr., 74, of 404 Blackmon Street in Four Oaks died Thursday, November 30 at Johnston Memorial Hospital.

Born June 30, 1926, he was the son of the late Hatcher and Esther Allen Byrd.

He was a retired member and former assistant chief of the Four Oaks Rescue Squad. He was also a retired member of the Four Oaks Fire Department and a member of the Four Oaks Methodist Church.

The funeral is scheduled for Saturday, December 2, at 11 a.m. at the Four Oaks Methodist Church with Rev. Joey Yow officiating. Burial to follow at Hills of the Neuse Memory Gardens.

Surviving are: wife, Mary Lou Johnson Byrd; sons, Glen E. "Trigger" Byrd, Jr. of Four Oaks and Donald J. Byrd of McGee's Crossroads Community; sisters, Frances Whittenton and Betty Capps of Benson, Janice Thorne of Smithfield and Joann Drennan of Four Oaks; brothers, Raeford Byrd of Benson, Roy Byrd and Hilton Byrd of Four Oaks and Bobby Byrd of Dunn; six grandchildren, Michael Byrd, Jeremy Byrd, Marianne Dunn and Missie Dunn, all of Four Oaks, and Leslie Byrd and Don Byrd, both of McGees Crossroads Community.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Georgia Byrd Dunn.

The family requests that memorials be made to Four Oaks Methodist Church, Four Oaks Rescue Squad or Four Oaks Fire Department.

Visitation will be held Friday from 7-9 p.m. at Minshew Funeral Home.
