George Leonard of Montreal
Sweetsburg -- The funeral of George Leonard, of Montreal, took place in Ste Rose de Lima Roman Catholic Church here on Wednesday July 7 at ten o'clock in the morning. Father Armand Desnoyers, parish priest, officiating.
The bearers were Vincent Leonard and L.J. Labreque of Cowansville, Joseph Lippe of Waterloo and Robert Lizotte of Sweetsburg. the flowers and spiritual offerings were very lovely and numerous.
Interment was made in Ste Rose de Lima Cemetery in Sweetsburg.
Mr. Leonard, who was in his 72nd year, passed away in Montreal on Saturday, July 5. He was son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Francis Leonard of Sweetsburg. Mr. Leonard left this village about 50 years ago.
His nephew, Vincent Leonard, resides in Cowansville and one of his nieces, Mrs. Marie Leonard Chapman, lives in Sweetsburg. Their father, the late A.J.E. Leonard was a brother of the deceased.
Other immediate relatives attending the funeral were two sisters, Mrs. Deslordes [De Lourdes] Lippe [Laura], of Megantic, and Mrs. Ray Ruiter [May] of Birmingham, Alabama. Also present was Mrs. Richard Berry [Claire Senecal] and three daughters, the Misses Anne, Kay and Penny Berry, of Buffalo, N.Y., Mr. Deslordes [De Lourdes] Lippe, and Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Lippe, all of Megantic.
A brother Lionel Leonard who resides in Edmonton, Alta., was unable to be present. Also absent were two nieces, Miss Norma Leonard and Marjorie, Mrs. B.D. Carpenter, who were in Toronto at the time.
