He married Selena Becker and fathered Marianne Elizabeth (b. 11/22/52 - married William H. Bair) and Samuel (b. 01/??/60, d. 02/15/60). Selena died February 15, 1860. While he presumably was still living in Adams County in 1860, he is not found in that census. A shoemaker by trade, he stood 5' 3" tall and had dark hair and blue eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he was drafted and mustered into federal service at Chambersburg March 30, 1865, as a private with Co. I, 56th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company July 1, 1865.
In 1890, he lived in Mount Pleasant Township, Adams County, and died at the Adams County Home Insane Asylum at age 83-5-8 from "(chronic diarrhea) immediate cause cerebral hemorrhage." His death certificate claims a January 1826 birth, but the calculated date is used here.
