Smith, who was the husband of the late Mary E. Snyder Smith, had been in failing health for several years. He died after an illness of three weeks.
Born in Frederick County, a son of the late Anthony Smith and Susan Crum Smith, he worked as a miner at the Liberty Copper Mine for a number of years. After the closing of the mine, he was engaged in dressing walnut logs for shipment to Europe.
The deceased is survived by seven children, Mrs. Carl Reiley, Mrs. Lillian Strawsburg, Mrs. Mazie Baker, Mrs. William Stitely and Charles Smith, all from the Libertytown area, and Roy smith and Mrs. Ralph Castle, both of Woodsboro.
Also surviving are one brother, Raymond Smith of near Libertytown, two sisters, Mrs. Calvin Keeney of Centerville, and Mrs. Eula Finneyfrock of the Frederick area; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
The body is at the G. C. Barton funeral home, Walkersville, where friends may call after 7 this evening. Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday morning at 10 A.M.
Interment will be in the Chapel cemetery near Libertytown.
