William Kirkwood was the son of Robert and Sarah Sloan Kirkwood. He married Anna Susanna Riddle in 1950. They were the parents of six children.
Ill in mid-1960, he went to live at the Timber Ridge County Farm. In the 1860 CENSUS (06/26/1860) he was listed as being age 60 and blind and insane.
The 1853-1870 Virginia Death Register lists William Kirkwood, 67, died at Rockbridge County Poor Farm on 02/13/1862 of Paralysis.
The Poor Farm had its own cemetery and it is thought that William is buried there.
