Dr. Richard Michael Beaven, 89, of Bowling Green, died Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Greenview Hospital. The Marion County native was the fourth son of the late John G. and Grace Hill Beaven. Brothers Charles, Jack, Hill, Joe Lee, and sister Theresa Martin were raised at RR #2, Lebanon, Kentucky.
Upon graduation from St. Charles High School he received contract offers from major league baseball organizations which included the Dodgers, Yankees, Cubs, and Giants. Rather than accept offers to play professional baseball, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He played baseball at Navy Base Port Hueneme, and upon discharge from the Navy, professional contracts continued to be offered. Deciding on a future in medicine instead, he attended pre-med classes at St. Joseph College in Rensselaer, IN. In 1956, he received his medical degree from St. Louis University Medical School.
After an internship in Milwaukee, WI, Dr. Beaven began his medical practice in Russellville, KY, but relocated to Bowling Green and practiced family/primary care medicine until retirement.
In 1959, he married Mabel Hunter Conway and was devoted to her throughout her battle with ovarian cancer.
Dr. Beaven was a Rotarian and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow for contributions to the Rotary International Foundation.
Dr. Beaven was a member of the Holy Spirit Parish and is survived by stepdaughter Sheila (Chuck) Eison of Bowling Green, and stepson Joe (Karen) Conway of Owensboro; grandchildren Jo Anne (Jimmie) Evans and Richard Michael Conway, and four great grandchildren, all of Owensboro; sister Theresa Martin Craig of Lebanon, and brother Joe Lee (Anna) Beaven of Lexington; sisters-in-law Rita Ann Beaven of Lebanon, and Kittye Maggard of Bowling Green; many nieces and nephews.
