Peggy Bishop Newman, 73, died Monday, March 12, 2007, in Abilene at her residence.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Elmcrest Baptist Church with Dr. Dan Williams officiating.
Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Born in Abilene, Texas, on March 2, 1934, Peggy was the daughter of Dollie Faye (Harwell) and Ernest Gray Bishop. She was reared in Abilene, where she lived her entire life. A 1952 graduate of Abilene High School, Peggy married Homer A. Newman on August 12, 1952, in Abilene. She was a sales representative for Southwestern Bell Telephone for 32 years.
Mrs. Newman was a member of Elmcrest Baptist Church and Telephone Pioneers of America.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer A. Newman, on March 9, 2004; daughter, Brenda Canul on November 6, 2006; and parents.
Survivors include her son, Robert Newman and wife, Karen, of Wichita Falls; two sisters, Jayne Williams of Greenville, Texas, and Elizabeth Doshier of Gassville, Arkansas; five grandchildren, David Newman, Clay Newman, Chris Canul, Patrick Canul and Carley Canul; and several nieces and nephews.
Peggy will be missed by her family and numerous friends for her radiant smile, gentle spirit, and devotion to serving God and others.
