Juana Pena Barrera, 68, died in a San Antonio hospital at 1:30 a.m. on February 4, 1952. She suffered with a mental condition in late life and was hospitalized in the San Antonio State Hospital. Family stories have it she was drowned in a commode by another patient.

(She was married to a Barrera and had a son, Ysabel "Pile" Barrera. After this union broke, she was with Librado Lopez - had a daughter, Ofilia Lopez (Rodriguez). Librado and Juanita separated while she was still pregnant).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Severiana Maldonado Pena, and a sister, Cruz P. Casas.

She is survived by one son, Ysabel "Pile" (Julia) Barrera, and one daughter, Mrs. Ofilia (Noe) Rodriguez.

She is also survived by five sisters, Severiana Pena, Manuela P. Cavazos (Jose), San Juana Casas (Noe), Lorenza Quinones, and Paula Garza (Refugio), and seven grandsons.

Funeral Services held Feb 6, 1952 at 1:30 p.m. at her sister, San Juana's residence, 718 14th Street. Church services held soon after at 2:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Burial followed in Holy Cross Cemetery, Corpus Christi, TX.
