Steve R. Swisher, age 71, of Huron, died Sunday, July 16, 2017, at his daughter Kristi's home, in Lawrenceville, Georgia, surrounded by family after a brief battle with cancer. His funeral service was Friday, July 28th at the American Lutheran Church. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery at Aberdeen.

Steve was born October 2, 1945, in Vermilion, South Dakota, to Clark, Sr. and Doris Swisher. He attended Northern State College in Aberdeen, where he played football for his dad, while earning a Masters Degree in Education. Steve met his future wife, Diane Woods, in Aberdeen, where they were married in 1966. They have two daughters, Sharee and Kristi.

Steve began his coaching and teaching career in Eureka, South Dakota, then moving to Watertown, Vermillion and finally Huron in 1976. He coached football, wrestling and track and field in Huron for which he brought several ESD conference titles to Huron High School. As a math instructor, he enjoyed helping his students learn. Steve retired in 2001 after 25 years in the Huron Public School System. Steve was honored for his accomplishments when he was inducted into the Huron High School Hall of Fame in 2012.

Steve had a passion for beating you at a good game of cards. He loved hunting and fishing with friends, family and his many dogs. He especially loved spending time with Diane and was a devoted husband and father.

He is survived by his daughters Sharee (Alan) Boyle, Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Kristi (Vyto) Gorinas, Lawrenceville, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Trenton, Chloe, Allison, Ava, Vienna, Noelle, and Gianna; two brothers, Clark and Dan Swisher; a sister, Becky Swisher; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane Swisher; his parents, Clark and Doris Swisher; three brothers, Kim, Joel and Scott Swisher; and a sister, Wendy Swisher.
