Aberdeen --- Funeral service for Clark L. Swisher, 89, long time resident of Aberdeen, will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Aberdeen, with Pastor Allan Schoonover officiating. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens with military rites by the Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post #24 of Aberdeen. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory of Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at the mortuary with the family present from 5-7 p.m. At 7 p.m. there will be a prayer service.

Clark passed away Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, at Avera Weskota Memorial Medical Center in Wessington Springs, S.D.

Clark Leo Swisher was born March 27, 1916, to Ralph and Edna (Chaussee) Swisher in Vermillion, S.D. He graduated from the University of South Dakota and held an advanced degree from Northern Colorado University. Clark taught at Wagner, S.D., and Elk Point, S.D., before joining the Army in 1942. He was with the 20th Armored Division.

In 1946, he joined Northern State Teachers College as a classroom teacher and head coach in football, basketball and track. Later he became Athletic Director and Chairman of Health and Physical Education.

Clark was very active in NSU and the Aberdeen community all his life. He was a member of numerous organizations including: Rotary, Elks, Eagles, Chamber of Commerce, Shriners, United Way, Senior Center, and was a member at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He was past president of NAIA, a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee, and one of the Directors of S.D. All Stars.

Clark married Doris Lathrop, July 29, 1939, in Vermillion, S.D.

Clark is survived by his wife, Doris of Aberdeen; sons: Clark Jr. (Marty) of Columbia, Mo., Steve (Diane) of Huron, S.D., Dan (Joan) of Mandan, N.D.; daughters: Elizabeth Brunson (Scott) of Phoenix, Ariz., and Wendy Fuentes. He is also survived by his brother, Jay of Groton, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sons, Kim, Scott and Joel.

Pallbearers will be: Bill Jordan, Bob Olson, Bob Beattie, Don Reshetar, V.G. Stoia, Jim Stout, Susan Entzel, Jim Kretchman, Chuck Kretchman, Don Vogt, Dr. Harry Jasinski and Max Hawk. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and all those who feel honored to have had Clark in their lives.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials which will be designated to Clark's favorite organizations. Cards may be sent to Steve Swisher, 1719 Kansas Ave. S.E., Huron, SD 57350.
