Jake served in the US Army as a Private during WW II. He was sent to France but due to being blind in one eye he could not go to the front line so he worke in the Main Army Hospital as a medic. When Jake was 19 years old he lost the sight in his left eye when a horse he was riding ran under a Boisd'arc Tree and a thorn stuck in his eye.
His headstone shows his death date as 23 October 1971 which is incorrect. his actual death date is 21 October 1971.
