Larry Bowyer, 80, Peru, passed peacefully in his sleep Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at Kindred Healthcare. He was born Feb. 3, 1932, in Cass County, the son of Donald C. Bowyer and Mary May (Nead) Bowyer. In 1952, he married Erma (Swayer) Bowyer, who survives.. He attended Nead School, in Nead, which was named for his mother’s family. He graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1950, where he played sports. Larry was a homebuilder before establishing Bowyer Excavating in 1968. He sold the business to his children in 1990. Larry was very proud of his children for continuing and expanding the business. After receiving his pilot’s license in 1958, Larry enjoyed flying his planes. He also enjoyed boating and riding motorcycles. He had more than a few of each over the years.. Larry loved telling jokes and making people laugh. Larry had many friends that he admired. He specifically wanted to mention his lifelong friends Lewis Glassburn, Claude Rowe and Paul J. Comerford, who are all deceased, and Craig Langley. He thought they were all the best there was. Larry would never say “goodbye.” He would always say “see ya later,” and that we will.. Larry is survived by two brothers, Vinal Bowyer (wife Marjorie) and Clayson Bowyer (wife Jean), both of Peru; children, Teresa Pendleton (husband Chester, deceased Jan. 27, 2012), Steven Bowyer (wife Christine), Mark Bowyer and Michael Bowyer (wife Rochelle); grandchildren, Ryan Williams (wife Allison), Indianapolis, Shelley Conyers (husband Brian), New Castle, Christopher Bowyer, Mandy Bowyer, Tyler Bowyer, Abigail and Emily Bowyer, all of Peru; great-grandson, Connor Williams and stepgrandchild, Marissa Doyle (husband Rob), and their children Alyssa, Robert and Carolyne, all from Harrison, Ohio.. He was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.. A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Saturday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, with Pastor Tim Deardorf officiating. Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday.. Memorial contributions may be sent to American Diabetes through the funeral home.
