Dean was born on January 21, 1932, in Princeville, the son of Forrest and Iva Grace (Barrett) Burns. He married Maureen Dourneen on January 13, 1962, in Peoria, IL; she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Keith Burns of Illinois and Kevin Burns of Morton; and one daughter, Kerin Burns of Chillicothe; five grandchildren, Nicholas (Sara) Kerr, Chelsea Burns, Michael Fromm, Karsen and Kaden Burns; two great-grandchildren, Odin Kerr and Jaxton Mjelde, and one sister-in-law, Marge Burns of Missouri. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Ensley, Lowell, Alvin, Duane and Edward Burns; and one sister, Vesta Nordwall.
Dean worked as an apprentice instructor at Caterpillar, retiring in 1980. He was a volunteer firefighter for the city of Peoria and was an active volunteer at his church. He loved attending his children's sporting events and school functions. He also enjoyed dancing at the Hub Ballroom in Edelstein
A graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 30, 2017 at Princeville Township Cemetery, Princeville, IL. Michael Kaak will officiate.
