HONORED BY FULTON FOR VOLUNTEERING

Clarissa Ann Owens, 78, of 222 S. Second St. died Monday at her home after a long illness.

A native of Madrid, Mrs. Owens resided most of her life in Fulton. She retired several years ago as manager of the Wise Dress Shop in Fulton. Mrs. Owens was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was active in various church organizations. She started a boys club at the Salvation Army and served on the board of directors of the local Salvation Army. She was a volunteer with the Pathfinder Courts board and the Oswego County migrant workers program. Mrs. Owens was the organizer 30 years ago of the local "Give To a Kid" Christmas program.

The city of Fulton named Jan. 7 as Clarissa Owens Day. She was named "Woman of the Year" in 1974 by the Fulton Rotary Club. She also was named the 1988 "Woman of the Year" by the Fulton Kiwanis Club and by the Fulton Lodge, BPOE. She was named the 1984 "Woman of the Year" by the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Fulton.

Clarissa was preceeded in death by her husband, Richard "Dick" Owens, and a son, Garr Richard Owens.

Surviving are her daughter, June Kierst of Auburn; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the First Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Peter D. Schlichting officiating. Burial will be in Mount Adnah Cemetery.

Calling hours will be at 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and Thursday at Young & Son Funeral Home.

Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Oswego County Hospice or any charity that sponsors children.
