SHREVEPORT, LA -- Funeral services for Bertie F. Melton, 91, will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Novembe 30, 2001 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Dr. Joe Brown, pastor of Liberty Baptist Church, assisted by Rev. Larry Chandler. Interment will follow in Forest Park West Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2001 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Melton, a native of Winnfield, LA and resident of Shreveport, LA for 44 years, passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2001 in Shreveport, LA. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Minnie Philan; husband, Marvin Melton; son, Earl Glendon Mathews and two brothers, Lonnie Philan and James Philan.

Mrs. Melton is survived by her son, John M. Mathews and wife, Peggy; two daughters, Jo Ann Witteborg and husband, Sonny; and Barbara Keller; three sisters, Bertha Foster, Lucille Le Point, and Audell Lindsay; brother, A. P. Philan; six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David Mathews, Robert Mathews, Sonny Sorrell, Thomas Butler, Bill Moore and Ralph Collins.

The family wishes to express a special thanks to Dr. Tommy Brown, Dr. Jimmy Smith, and the nursing staff of Willis-Knighton North 5- West.
