Lucille was a lifelong member of Ingleside Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir and being a member of the Singing Saints. She worked for many years as a beautician, owning her own salon. In 1977 she was instrumental in the opening of the Mirtha Grotto/United Way Dental Clinic for indigent children of Shreveport. After retirement she discovered her artistic talent and won several ribbons and recognition at local art shows. She also enjoyed the outdoors, working in her yard and spending time with her family.
Lucil[l]e was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Birdie Matthews; and two brothers, Lonnie Philan, and Cecil "Shorty" Philan.
She is survived by two sisters, Bertha Foster of Shreveport, and Audell Lindsay and husband, "Rub" of Jonesville, TX; one brother, A. P. Philan and wife, Chris of Shreveport; son, Ron LePoint and wife, Faye of Campti, LA; and daughter, Phyllis Haugarth of Plano, TX; three grandchildren, Lisa Wilson of Waxahachie, TX, Brandi Ratley Long and husband, Nolen of Hot Springs, AR., and Micheal LePoint and wife, Tiffanie of DeSoto, TX; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
As per her lifelong wish, Lucille has donated her body to PCC Anatomical Gift Program for scientific study.
Memorial service to be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2007 at Knighton Road Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking donations be considered for The Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or Kingston Road Baptist Church, 8900 Kingston Road, Shreveport, LA 71118.
