Verda Marie Oliver Rigdon, the daughter of Edmond H. Oliver and Edna Whisman Oliver, was born on April 27, 1924 at Primrose, Ky. She passed away on May 21, 2017 at the age of Ninety-three years and twenty four days at Hospice Compassionate Care in Richmond, KY.

Marie worked as a telephone operator for a few years in Lexington, Ky. After that she attended Bryant Stratton Business College and worked as a stenographer in Louisville, Ky., and later in Cincinnati, Ohio,

She is survived by three sons, David and Donald Rigdon of Cincinnati, Ohio and Daniel Rigdon of Beattyville, Ky.; one grandson, William Rigdon and wife Kelsey of Lexington, Ky.; two sisters, Gladys Oliver and Madge Oliver Cockerham of Beattyville, Ky.; one sister-in-law, Ruby Oliver of Cincinnati, Ohio; eight special nephews, Larry Oliver and wife Kim, Sam Cockerham and wife Edna of Beattyville, Ky., John Oliver and wife Sharon of Norfolk, Va., Jim Oliver and wife Beverly of Sioux Falls, SD., Tom Oliver of Chesapeake, Va., John Paul Oliver 2nd and wife Bonnie of Bowersville, Ohio, Charles Oliver and wife Maria of San Antonio, Tx., and Garry Oliver of Charlotte, N.C.; three special nieces, Debbie Ann Gevedon and husband Hank of Mt. Vernon, Ky., Becky Smyth and husband Fred of New Harmony , Indiana, and Lou Ann Bartholomew and husband Dale, of Cincinnati, Ohio; eight great nephews, five great nieces, seven great great-nephews, four great great-nieces, and Marie’s kitty cat, Amber.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Damon Rigdon, her parents, three sisters, three brothers, two nieces, and one nephew.

Marie lived happily with her sister, Gladys Oliver, for the last twenty years. They enjoyed growing beautiful flowers, embroidering, piecing and quilting numerous quilts, and watching the UK Wildcats and the Cincinnati Reds, especially when the Reds won once in a while. She was a member of the St. Helens Christian Church, where Glen Wilson is the Pastor. She was a wonderful lady and she will be greatly missed by other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Justin Oliver, Sam Cockerham, Hank Gevedon, Mike Johnson, Randy Brandenburg, and Larry Oliver.

Funeral arrangements will be handled by Porter and Son Funeral home. And she will be laid to rest at Evans Crossing Cemetery in Campton, Ky. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Compassionate Care in Richmond, Ky.
