Culia Hayles and Kindred O'Neal (c.1785-1855) were married in Johnston Co., NC, on 21 Feb. 1810. By the time of the 1810 census, they'd moved to Anson County, NC. They probably had eleven children, nine daughters and two sons. Per the census records, Culia was born circa 1791/94, and died before 1850.

As far as I know, the children of Kindred O'Neal and Culia Hayles were:

1. Millie O'Neal (10 Jan. 1812-7 Jan. 1889) married A. Nelson Caddell (1812-1888). Name appears on the 1855 petition of the heirs of Kindred O'Neal. Children: William Iverson Caddell (28 Feb. 1844-3 July 1929, m. Minerva C. Stegall, 6 children), George Kindred Caddell (c.1845/6, August 1847-26 June 1926, m. Sarah, 4 children), Susan Adeline Caddell (c.1848/9).

2. Zillah "Zillie" O'Neal (17 Nov. 1812-17 July 1882) married Hugh A. Beachum (1806-1861). Children: Jeremiah Washington Beachum (1830-1910, m. Mary Jane Taylor, 14 children, my line); Joseph J. Beachum (c.1832/3-1865, never married, Confederate soldier, died at Elmira Prison); Harriet Jane Beachum (1834-1872, m. James B. Deas, six children); James Thomas Beachum (1837-1907, m. Margaret Adeline Sikes, six children); William H. Beachum (c.1840-1862, m. Miss McIntire, 1 son, died in War); Daniel K. Beachum (1847-1923, married twice: Tabitha Dean, Annie Simmons, at least one son F. Hawley Beachum); Christina Clementine Beachum (1854-1862, died of diptheria). Zillie, her husband and some of her children are buried at the Hugh Beachum family graveyard, Bunn Road. The 1850 Anson Co. mortality schedlue lists two Beachum children, Allen Beachum, age 9, and Mary A. Beachum, age 7, who died in June of 1849, of "sore throat" (probably diptheria). I don't know if they were Hugh and Zillie's children, or Isaiah and Phereba's.

3. Lucinda O'Neal (c.1814-9 Jan. 1851) married Alexander Kiker, six children: Annice (Anna?) P. Kiker (1834-1905, m. Richmond Sikes); Louis Jackson Kiker (1838-1916, m. Roxanna Hatcher); William Martin Kiker (1842-1907, m. Dorcas Sasser); Franklin Durant Kiker (c.1843/4, may have died in the War); Edmund S. Kiker (1845/8-1923, m. Mr. Tadlock, four children). Spear is buried near his parents in the O'Neal cemetery in an unmarked grave. T. K. O'Neal is buried at the Williams Cemetery in Polkton.

11. daughter born 1831/5, per census of 1840. Doesn't show up in her father's household in 1850. One source states that there was a Hortense O'Neal who married a Donahoe, and I find a Lina Donahoe, 29 (c.1831), wife of John Donahoe, 30, living next to the Beachums and O'Neals in the 1860 census, with three children: Eloisa (or Elvira), 9, Sarah, 7, Martin, 2. Can't find any other record of them.

There is also a Zina Thomas, age 25, listed in Kindred O'Neal's household in 1850. I don't know who she was. Also some Thomas children.

Culia Hayles O'Neal had at least a dozen grandsons who served in the Confederate Army.
