Gaylord Bumsted died March 13, 2000, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa.
Services were March 17, 2000, for Gaylord Charles Bumsted, 88, of Mapleton at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton. The Rev. Bob Fritzmeier officiated with burial in Liston Township Cemetery in Danbury under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Service in Mapleton, Iowa.
Mr. Bumsted was born Aug. 10, 1911, in Danbury, Iowa, the son of Charles and Nellie (Davis) Bumsted. He attended country school and Danbury Public School until he was needed on the farm. He also worked for various farmers in the area.
He married Helen Bueoy Aug. 9, 1935, in Ida Grove. The couple farmed near Mapleton before moving to Danbury in 1940, where they farmed for 32 years. In 1969, they moved into Mapleton, where he worked in the maintenance department of Maple Heights Nursing Home for 18 years. He entered Maple Heights Nursing Home in January 1998. He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ and Senior Citizens.
Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Larry and Jean Bumsted of Oto, Jerry and Tootie Bumsted of Mapleton and Gary and Eileen Bumsted of Anthon; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; two brothers and their wives, Earl and Beverly Bumsted and Lloyd and Helene Bumsted, all of Ute; and a sister, Stella Fredrickson of Mapleton.
