Charles Brook Bumsted, son of Charles and Lottie Bumsted, was born February 26, 1889, near Woodbine, Iowa. When he was a small boy, he came with his parents to the Danbury community where he farmed and resided until 1937. At that time, he moved to a farm near Smithland. In 1944, he came to Mapleton where he made his home for the remainder of his life. He quit farming in 1944. In 1945, he began working for the State Highway Commission and in 1959 he retired.

He was married to Nellie Davis in 1909 at Ida Grove. This union was blessed with four daughters and seven sons. His wife, Nellie, preceeded him death in 1943. He was married to Marie Jones on August 30, 1946, in Omaha, Nebraska.

Mr. Bumsted died Friday, April 10, 1964, at his home after suffering a heart attack.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, 1964, at the Walter Funeral Chapel at Mapleton. Rev. Byron Ayers, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiated.

Interment was in the Danbury Cemetery at Danbury, Iowa. Pallbearers were Larry Bumsted, Jerry Bumstead, Gary Bumsted, Arlo Christophersen, Kenneth Fredrickson and Richard Bumsted.

He is survived by his widow, Marie, of Mapleton; three daughters, Mrs. George Fredrickson of Danbury, Mrs. Ernest Christophersen of Smithland, and Mrs. Emil Christophersen of Mapleton; six sons, Gaylord of Danbury, Glenn of Sioux City, Roy and Floyd of Hornick and Lloyd and Earl of Ute; three sisters, Mrs. Pearl Brown of Oto, Mrs. Clarence Slentz of Mapleton and Mrs. Arthur Pry of Danbury; a half brother, Edward Bumsted of Marshalltown; 19 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his first wife, Nellie, one son and one daughter.
