In 1913 Mary married Richard (Herman) Diamond in Detroit. Richard worked in the auto plant, but after the birth of their second child, he decided to become a Detroit Police officer. On the second day he was hired, as he and his rookie partner chased some suspects, gunfire was exchanged and he was hit in the head and killed on Aug 18, 1917, leaving a young wife and two children. Because he hadn't yet been sworn in, he was not eligible for insurance, but because of the kindness of the public and city officials, Mary was given funds and a pension good for a few years.
Their children were Gertrude and Frank Diamond. She remarried to Frank G. Lange and they had one son together, Joseph.
