Norma J. Gotwalt, 86, of Camp Hill, passed away on Sunday March 19, 2017 at Messiah Lifeways, Mechanicsburg.
Born on October 8, 1930 in York, she was the daughter of the late Edwin L. and Alma Naomi (Allison) Gotwalt.
Norma received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Elementary Administration from Bucknell University and went on to receive her Post Master’s in Educational Administration from the PA State University. Norma worked for the Office of Presidential Correspondence, White House, Washington, D.C. and was appointed by Governor Ridge to be the Chairperson of the PA Sate Civil Service Commission, Harrisburg. She was appointed by Governor Schweiker to be Executive Director of the PA Commission for Women. She was also a Receptionist for the Office of Margaret Thatcher Foundation, Washington, D.C. She was a past Director for the Division of Elementary Education, Harrisburg School District and an Elementary Principal at D.A. Marshall Elementary School. Norma Chaired and/or was a member of numerous organizations and activities. Most notably she was a member of the Harrisburg Area Community College Foundation and a member of the Executive Committee of the Women’s Fund of the Harrisburg Foundation for Enhancing Communities. She was past president of the Girls Club, Children’s Play Room, and the Art Association, all of Harrisburg. Past president of the National Women’s Educational Caucus, American Assoc. of School Administrators, and the Harrisburg-Hershey Zonta Club, Zonta International.
