Deseret News, October. 24, 1996. Ruby McQuarrie, 86, passed away peacefully, October 22, 1996 in Bountiful, Utah of causes incident to age. Born January 21, 1910 in Fairview, Utah to Lawrence T. and Loretta Pritchett Epperson. Married I. Bruce McQuarrie on January 20, 1930; later divorced. As a professionally trained opera contralto, Ruby sang in many of the better known operas, such as Tales of Hoffmann, Carmen, and Faust (University of Utah Summer Festival in 1958). She was also an accomplished violinist and concert pianist. Ruby actively assisted Maurice Abravanel in promoting the Utah Symphony in the Ogden area. A prolific landscape artist, she studied many years with the world famous artist Louis Heinzman.

Ruby is survived by a daughter, Trisha Scott; a son, Dr. Irvin G. McQuarrie; a sister, Virginia E. James; four brothers, Lawrence L. Epperson (Gwenn Finch), Vaughn E. Epperson (Margaret Ann Hewlett), Elbert P. Epperson (Leslie Livingston), Gerald "Jerry" J. Epperson (Maria Passon); six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Friday, October 25, 12 noon, in the Woodland, Utah Cemetery under the direction of Larkin Mortuary.
