JOLO-Vernie Landers Lester, 73, of Jolo, died Thursday, Jan. 21,1999, at the Clinch Valley Medical Center, Richlands, Va., following a long illness. Born Dec. 15,1926, at Stacy, Va., Buchanan County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Luke and Ethel Rife Landers. She was a homemaker, and a resident of Jolo since the age of 7. She was a former owner/operator of Lesters Garage and Grocery at Jolo. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard Lester; one son, Orville Talliman “Curley” Lester; and two brothers, Robert Tommy Landers and Corman Landers. Survivors include one grandson, Jonathan Luke Lester of Roanoke, Va.; one daughter-in-law, Talis June Lester of the home; five sisters, Mrs. C.O. (Myrtle) Landers Davis of Nashville, Tenn., Helen Landers of North Ridgeville. Ohio, Marie Landers of Burke, Va., Jean Landers of North Ridgeville, and Vivian Leigh Landers Watkins of Burke, Va.; three brothers, Brown Landers of Columbia Station, Ohio, Bill Norman Landers and Ferrel David Landers, both of Lima, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be con ducted Sunday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m. at the Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Va., with Sen. John P. Fanning conducting the service. Burial will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill. Friends may call Saturday, Jan. 23, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Fanning Funeral Home Chapel, Iaeger. Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
