Athelia H Griffin (1852-1911) was the sixth child of Thomas Chipman Griffin and Rebecca (Rebekah) R. Griffin and was born in Nova Scotia, Canada. She had five brothers (Harris, Alonzo, Daniel, Wallace, & Noble) and three sisters (Remina "Mina" Churchill, Florena "Rena" Stewart, & Annie Frye Remick) .After two generations living in Canada, The Griffin family returned to Massachusetts and settled in Wayland, MA, outside of Boston near Lake Cochituate in the early 1860s. They established shoe factories in the area and Athelia also worked as a dress maker. She married George Cornelius Hill, a carpenter and machinist, in 1869. They were the parents of four children: Etta Julia Hill Cook (1870-1935), William Chipman Hill (1872-1917), Blanche Lawrence Hill Drew (abt 1875-?), and George Austin Hill (1879-1962) Later in life, after her husband's death, Athelia lived with her daughter, Etta and family. The Hills are buried not far from the Griffin family plot at Lakeview Cemetery.
