Shirley M. Newberry passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 15, 2008. Shirley was a resident of St. Francis Extended Health Care at the time, but spent the majority of her life at the family home on Mason Street in Bellingham. Born January 25, 1934 in Bellingham to Hilda and Axel Anderson, Shirley graduated from Bellingham High School and married Wayne Newberry in 1956. In 1958, she gave birth to her pride and joy David Wayne. Shirley worked at Manning's restaurant, Wallace Poultry, and Safeway until her retirement. Shirley was never one to sit still long. After retiring, she loved to travel, watch the Seattle Mariners and the Husky's, and celebrate holidays, especially Christmas and 4th of July. She loved to be surrounded by her family and she gave the best bear hugs to her grandson Brenin. Preceding her in death were her parents; sisters, Gladys Sandal and Hazel Rhode; and her brother Lloyd Anderson. She is survived by her son David; sisters, Dolly Rohde, Betty (Leonard) Oswald, Donna (Herman) Taunton; brother-in-law Dick Sandal; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Special thanks to the staff at Mt. Baker Kidney Center, to her extended family Jenny and Michael, and the other staff at St. Francis Extended Health Care Center. Visitation will be held at Moles Greenacres Funeral Home on May 22 at 11:00 AM with the funeral service following at 1:00 PM. A gathering at Uncle Dick's house will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Baker Kidney Center or St. Francis Extended Health Care Center.
