Charlene Smith Alderson, age 71, a resident of Columbia, passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 4, 2017 at Vanderbilt Medical Center.
A homegoing celebration will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 12:00 PM at Miracle Temple of Deliverance with Min. Gabriel McGuire officiating. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. Instate Monday at 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Baxter Brother Funeral Home whom are assisting the family with arrangements.
She was born on November 11, 1945, to Mary Alice Wade Smith and the late William T. Smith. Charlene graduated from Carver Smith High and later married the late Larry W. Alderson. Later as a single parent, she dedicated her life to doing factory work (Lasko & Apcom) and part-time housekeeping to support her three boys. Charlene was a devoted daughter, mother and grandmother for as long as her health allowed. She loved to sing gospel songs, she loved to dance and ride motorcycles but most of all she loved her family. She was saved and worshiped at Mt. Hope Baptist Church in Spring Hill until her later years. Charlene continued her praise and worship with Miracle Temple of Deliverance until the Lord called her home.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her mother, Mary Alice Wade Smith; three sons, Victor (Daphne) Alderson of Columbia, Michael (Wendy) Alderson of Spring Hill, and Morriel (Tanay) Alderson of Columbia; her sisters, Janie (John) Clack, and Sharon (Bobby-Joe) Locke; her brothers, James (Sharon) Smith, Larry (Alice) Smith, and Rev. Harry (Dorothy) Smith; 15 grandchildren; three great -grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Charlene was preceded in death by her sister, Rose (George) Cleveland, and brother Carl (Janie) Smith.
